Il sabato del Gran Premio di Germania consegna a REDS Fantic Racing una griglia più arretrata rispetto al potenziale mostrato nel corso del weekend, ma anche la consapevolezza di poter contare su un passo gara competitivo in vista della gara di domenica.
Dopo aver aperto il weekend con il secondo tempo nelle FP1, confermato dall'ottavo posto nella Practice del venerdì e dal nono tempo nella FP2 del sabato mattina, Tony Arbolino ha chiuso la Q2 in sedicesima posizione al termine di una sessione fortemente condizionata dalle bandiere gialle e da distacchi estremamente contenuti.
Il pilota italiano si è visto annullare il primo tentativo lanciato con il primo set di gomme nuove a causa di una bandiera gialla incontrata proprio all'inizio del giro veloce. In un circuito come il Sachsenring, dove il picco prestazionale della gomma si concentra sostanzialmente nel primo passaggio lanciato, il secondo tentativo non ha permesso di esprimere lo stesso livello di performance.
Rientrato ai box per montare un secondo set di pneumatici, Arbolino si è ritrovato nuovamente a fare i conti con una seconda bandiera gialla proprio durante il primo giro del nuovo time attack, compromettendo definitivamente la sessione e relegandolo alla sedicesima posizione finale.
Nonostante il risultato della qualifica, le indicazioni raccolte nel corso del weekend restano particolarmente incoraggianti: sia nella Practice del venerdì sia nella FP2 del sabato mattina il passo gara di Arbolino si è infatti confermato tra i migliori dello schieramento, con prestazioni da zona top ten e la concreta possibilità di costruire una gara in rimonta.
Per Jorge Navarro il sabato è stato invece dedicato a proseguire il lavoro di adattamento alla Kalex del team e alle caratteristiche uniche del Sachsenring. Lo spagnolo, ancora impegnato nella sostituzione di Barry Baltus, ha preso parte alla Q1 continuando a migliorare progressivamente i propri riferimenti cronometrici e raccogliendo ulteriori indicazioni tecniche utili in vista della gara.
Navarro scatterà dalla ventiseiesima posizione in griglia, proseguendo il proprio percorso di crescita insieme alla squadra nel secondo weekend con i colori REDS Fantic Racing.
Il team affronterà quindi la gara di domenica con l'obiettivo di valorizzare il ritmo mostrato nelle sessioni di prova e costruire una rimonta su un circuito dove i sorpassi non saranno semplici, ma dove il passo mostrato da Arbolino rappresenta una base solida da cui partire.
Saturday at the German Grand Prix leaves REDS Fantic Racing with a grid position further back than the potential shown across the weekend, but also with the knowledge of having a competitive race pace ahead of Sunday's race.
After opening the weekend with the second-fastest time in FP1, confirmed by eighth place in Friday's Practice and the ninth-fastest time in Saturday morning's FP2, Tony Arbolino ended Q2 in sixteenth position at the end of a session heavily affected by yellow flags and extremely narrow margins.
The Italian rider had his first flying attempt on his first set of new tyres cancelled because of a yellow flag encountered right at the start of the fast lap. On a circuit like the Sachsenring, where the tyre's peak performance is essentially concentrated in the first flying lap, the second attempt did not allow him to deliver the same level of performance.
Back in the pits to fit a second set of tyres, Arbolino once again had to deal with a second yellow flag right during the first lap of his new time attack, definitively compromising the session and leaving him in sixteenth position.
Despite the qualifying result, the indications gathered throughout the weekend remain particularly encouraging: both in Friday's Practice and in Saturday morning's FP2, Arbolino's race pace proved to be among the best on the grid, with top-ten level performances and a concrete chance to build a comeback race.
For Jorge Navarro, Saturday was devoted to continuing his adaptation to the team's Kalex and to the unique characteristics of the Sachsenring. The Spaniard, still standing in for Barry Baltus, took part in Q1 while progressively improving his lap times and gathering further useful technical information ahead of the race.
Navarro will start from twenty-sixth on the grid, continuing his development alongside the team in his second weekend in REDS Fantic Racing colours.
The team will therefore approach Sunday's race aiming to make the most of the pace shown in the practice sessions and to build a comeback on a circuit where overtaking will not be easy, but where the pace shown by Arbolino represents a solid base to start from.
Le samedi du Grand Prix d'Allemagne laisse REDS Fantic Racing avec une position sur la grille en deçà du potentiel montré tout au long du week-end, mais avec des indications de rythme de course très encourageantes pour la course de dimanche.
Après avoir ouvert le week-end avec le deuxième temps en FP1, confirmé par la huitième place en essais du vendredi et le neuvième temps en FP2 samedi matin, Tony Arbolino abordait les qualifications avec l'ambition de se battre pour les deux premières lignes. Le scénario de la Q2 ne s'est cependant pas déroulé comme prévu.
Le pilote italien a vu sa première tentative lancée avec le premier set de pneus neufs annulée à cause d'un drapeau jaune rencontré au début du tour rapide. Obligé de repasser par la ligne de départ, il n'a pu exploiter pleinement le grip optimal du premier tour lancé.
De retour aux stands pour monter un second set, Arbolino s'est à nouveau retrouvé confronté à un deuxième drapeau jaune lors du premier tour de sa nouvelle tentative, compromettant définitivement sa session. Son meilleur temps, 1'23"301, le place seizième à seulement 0.645s de la pole et 0.373s de la deuxième ligne dans une session extrêmement serrée.
Malgré le résultat des qualifications, les indications recueillies tout au long du week-end restent particulièrement encourageantes : aussi bien en essais du vendredi qu'en FP2, Arbolino a montré un rythme de course digne du top 10.
Pour Jorge Navarro, le samedi a été consacré à poursuivre son adaptation à la Kalex de l'équipe et aux caractéristiques uniques du Sachsenring. L'Espagnol a continué à travailler méthodiquement, améliorant sa compréhension de la moto.
Navarro partira de la vingt-sixième position, poursuivant son développement aux côtés de l'équipe lors de son deuxième week-end aux couleurs REDS Fantic Racing.
L'équipe abordera la course de dimanche avec l'objectif de valoriser le rythme montré en essais et de construire une remontée sur un circuit où les dépassements, bien que difficiles, sont possibles dans certaines zones clés du tracé.

"È stata una giornata piuttosto sfortunata, anzi direi molto sfortunata. In qualifica abbiamo trovato una bandiera gialla proprio nel primo giro con il primo set di gomme nuove e qui al Sachsenring sappiamo che praticamente si ha un solo giro utile per sfruttare al massimo la gomma. Ho provato comunque a spingere nel secondo passaggio, ma la prestazione della gomma era già calata. Poi siamo tornati ai box per montare un altro set e ancora una volta, nel primo giro lanciato, abbiamo trovato una bandiera gialla. A quel punto la qualifica era praticamente compromessa. Fa parte delle corse. Abbiamo comunque capito alcune cose e sappiamo dove dobbiamo migliorare in alcuni punti della pista. Per domani sono fiducioso: abbiamo un buon passo gara e potremo far vedere quello che siamo in grado di fare."
"It was quite an unlucky day, in fact I'd say very unlucky. In qualifying we found a yellow flag right on the first lap with the first set of new tyres, and here at the Sachsenring we know you basically only have one useful lap to get the most out of the tyre. I still tried to push on the second lap, but the tyre performance had already dropped. Then we came back to the pits to fit another set and once again, on the first flying lap, we found a yellow flag. At that point qualifying was practically compromised. It's part of racing. We still understood some things and we know where we need to improve in certain sections of the track. I'm confident for tomorrow: we have a good race pace and we'll be able to show what we're capable of."

"Oggi abbiamo fatto un altro piccolo passo avanti. Questa mattina abbiamo lavorato sul passo gara e, anche se il giro veloce non è stato particolarmente competitivo, soprattutto nell'ultima parte della simulazione le sensazioni erano positive e siamo riusciti a capire alcune cose importanti. Nel pomeriggio in Q1 ho migliorato sensibilmente i miei riferimenti, anche se ho sofferto parecchio di chatter che mi ha impedito di far girare la moto come avrei voluto. In ogni caso abbiamo raccolto informazioni preziose sia al mattino sia al pomeriggio e domani cercheremo di rifinire ulteriormente la nostra base per affrontare la migliore gara possibile."

"Avremmo voluto fare qualcosa in più in qualifica. Ci aspettavamo un turno meno condizionato da episodi esterni, ma purtroppo, come ci era già successo in America quest'anno, le bandiere gialle hanno avuto un peso importante sul nostro time attack. Tony ha trovato delle cadute davanti a sé proprio all'inizio del primo giro lanciato e questo ci ha tolto il tentativo più importante della sessione. Ha continuato a spingere nei passaggi successivi, ma qui al Sachsenring il rendimento della gomma cala molto rapidamente e sapevamo di avere praticamente una sola vera occasione per gomma. Questo però non cambia il nostro approccio alla gara. Andiamo alla domenica con grande determinazione e con la voglia di costruire una bella rimonta, perché il ritmo mostrato tra venerdì e sabato mattina è stato da top ten. Per quanto riguarda Jorge, il lavoro continua. I miglioramenti cronometrici ci sono stati, ma su una pista come il Sachsenring, dove pochi decimi separano il primo dalle ultime posizioni, ogni piccolo dettaglio fa una grande differenza. Continuiamo a lavorare con fiducia anche sul suo lato del box."
"We would have liked to do a bit more in qualifying. We expected a session less affected by external events, but unfortunately, as already happened to us in America this year, the yellow flags had a significant impact on our time attack. Tony found crashes ahead of him right at the start of his first flying lap and that took away the most important attempt of the session. He kept pushing in the following laps, but here at the Sachsenring tyre performance drops very quickly and we knew we had practically only one real opportunity per tyre. This doesn't change our approach to the race, though. We head into Sunday with great determination and the desire to build a good comeback, because the pace shown between Friday and Saturday morning was top-ten level. As for Jorge, the work continues. There have been improvements in his lap times, but on a track like the Sachsenring, where a few tenths separate the leader from the last positions, every small detail makes a big difference. We keep working with confidence on his side of the garage too."
